You might be thinking of Doom. ROTT is written in Watcom C and Turbo Assembler, originally branching off Wolfenstein 3D code, which was in Turbo C. Certainly x86.

In all of the games low detail is actually x4 strech, but when shrunk to the lowest size, it's only x2. In ROTT medium is x2, low is x4.

I don't even use the Start menu anymore. It's been useless for years. I basically use the search bar for everything, but even to have that functioning one needs to disable web search, otherwise it becomes as useless as everything else.

Nope.
- No operating system was included with IBM PC 5150. Without a system disk computer would boot into Basic in ROM.
- Both DOS and CP/M were available at launch, but you had to pay for them.
- There was no such thing as "MS-DOS" in 81. It was IBM PC DOS. MS-DOS arrived in 82.

They become a lot less ugly after the first couple, but by 12 or so they become incredibly tedious. Multiple maps also hide required keys in insane secrets. So much bullshit.
