Got around to watching 90s cult classic black comedy "Drop Dead Gorgeous". Amazing cast, great satirical setup, and yet the movie fumbles the ball in pretty much every area. Out of everyone only Allison Janney manages to be consistently funny. She's the film's highlight.

Not really, that's what causes the issue to begin with. By "delay" I mean it extends the period of time between screen going black with white squares and when the game checks the gun sensor.

Make a directory that is going to act like your virtual C drive. Anywhere you like, but easier if you just make it inside your DosBox directory.
Then in dosbox: mount c <directory>
For example, if you created a directory called "HDD" in your DosBox folder use "mount C .\hdd"

It sounds pretty apocryphal. DOS source code, especially by 1988, is fairly large (all the ASM code for version 2.0, for example, is over 1.5 megs,) so it doesn't make much sense to put it in a book.

Да нет. Вспомним что в оригинальном 86-DOS (до микрософта) было ещё больше разных утилит приложено. А потом её и перестали прилагать. По-моему с DOS 3 надо было уже отдельный пакет покупать.
