Yeah, you couldn't do much writing when you've had a 64k memory limit. When those restrictions (at least for text) were removed RPGs went all out on just piling on text. Adventures usually stayed quite lean, unless it was something like Callahan's where it's a length of a book.

DOS version is from the 1990. 1988 is for the original Apple II version. He also remade it for the Apple II once again in 1991 to utilize the "double-res" technique.
