Wtf, there's a Will Vinton documentary that's been out for months, and I didn't know?!
Replying to @dosnostalgic
This was a great doc. Because it doesn't shy away from the negative stuff from the get go, instead of saving it for a dramatic climax. The opening instantly lets you know that the framing is gonna be Vinton v Knight stuff, but there's more throughout.

The doc doesn't really bring up the fact that Travis Knight had lost more money with Laika than Will Vinton ever had.

What a weird documentary. First, it's the framing device of the narrator being an actor doing research for the role of Fulci in a fictional biopic. Then it's the fact that's it's aimed only at people who already know Fulci's work well.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
So much so that when multiple films of his are discussed, not even once did you get to see footage of them. At best you get scans of promotional photos from magazines of scenes that have little to do with a scene that's being discussed.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
The doc focuses mostly on Fulci's previously somewhat mysterious personal life. It attempts to dispel a few popular myths about him, and also draws parallels from his life to his films. Some of the friends, colleagues & family are interviewed for the first time ever.

During the 2 most recent interviews Carpenter let a couple of things slip through, unusually for himself, that made me think that he's still bitter about critical reception of his films, and the tail end of his career. Made me sad.
Replying to @JonasKyratzes
Found the quotes. 😥
Replying to @JonasKyratzes
I'm honestly surprised that Carpenter's case isn't a cornerstone of every filmmaking course. In every aspect. Up to and including examining how a man who managed to create & break through the system every time for so long was eventually beaten down by it.
Replying to @JonasKyratzes
Same. When I was young and still realizing that I love cinema, he very directly showed me what an authorial ownership meant simply by putting his name in the title. It's his films that made me realize how different & creative one can be while still having a fairly strict style.
Replying to @JonasKyratzes
Which is why when I was a bit older watching some of his final films was so painful. He was working for paycheck, now pigeonholed into being a "horror guy", and the only time he managed to escape it with Escape from LA he got eaten alive.

Well, this is interesting. It looks like the game actually came out in 1988 according to the data files, which explains a couple of things (16 color VGA support). It supports Creative Music System (SAA1099 PSG) and Innovation SSI-2001 (SID chip) cards for music & sound. (1/2)... https://x.com/dosnostalgic/status/1591157265524207617
