Here's the 1994 Windows 3.x (not the greatest, due to its framerate) port of D/Generation running on my Windows 10 machine via the magic of OtVDM. It swaps out FM title music for a MIDI, so at least there's that.

I would go either with a DOS version (pretty much the original version created by the author), or something like an Amiga CD32 port, where you can play with a gamepad, but otherwise it's identical.

No. Most Silmarils DOS games only had support for either CGA or VGA. 16 colors was very common for the time, especially in French games, because the target was both Atari ST and Amiga.
