The Fly definitely is one of the more impactful because the story plays out like a heavy tragedy. And THEN you add on all the gross out effects. The final 10 minutes are incredibly devastating because all the elements combine, and then the movie just cuts to credits.

Yep. About the same with RoboCop. I always loved it as a kid, but then there was a gap, and I haven't watched it till I was in my late teens, and I was like HOLY SHIT at violence & emotion. And these days the scene where he visits his house almost makes me cry.

Replying to @luisfmercado
Not like the first. Ripple of Blade Runner could be felt in everything almost immediately, even though it was a flop. It's a revered classic and a game changer. 2049 changes nothing. It is not revolutionary in any way. It's just *incredibly* good for a sequel no one asked for.
Replying to @luisfmercado
I mean, it's arguably a better actual movie. First one is deeply flawed. 2049 has actual structure and coherence. But original Blade Runner isn't a classic for its expertly told story now, is it?
Replying to @higHChloride
Yeah, also a rare case of a studio gambling with $150 mil project. Well, that definitely isn't gonna happen anymore.

It's definitely hard for a $150 mil movie to be revolutionary, that's for sure. And after BR2049's tanking I doubt that gamble will happen ever again. But I don't believe everything has been done. Something like "The VVitch" is, I feel, very new, and exciting.

It's actually a pretty fancy in-house installer all around, and both of those things could have certainly happned, as for example, it does the Blaster detection, but doesn't do anything with it. You're instructed to run the generic HMI sound config utility after the fact.
Replying to @DaVince21 and @delmoi
Not if you installed into a custom directory, which the installer lets you do.
Replying to @delmoi
Actually, plot thickes, and I might gravitate towards the latter theory, since the disc appears to be a later re-release and the batch file was made almost THREE years after the exe.
Replying to @delmoi
Or maybe not. The batch file is the re-release solution, but the original INSTALL.LST file from 1995 is just missing the executable. WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST EDIT THAT FILE FOR THE RE-RELEASE?!?!
Replying to @delmoi
OR if they were unsure and didn't want to touch the file, they could have just put the exe into the SETSOUND directory. Its entire contents gets copied over. There's still no reason to prompt the user to do that!
Replying to @delmoi
Well, there are multiple releases archived on the internet archive, so I guess we're going to find out in a few minutes!
Replying to @delmoi
LOL. The original release is just that. Forgets to copy the file over. 😂
Replying to @delmoi
Aha! Got it. I had a demo of it on a sampler disc all along. And here how it was meant to be done. Runs an executable off the CD with a path. In the final version that is replaced with RUNCD.EXE which is meant to do the same thing, but just doesn't work.
Replying to @delmoi
Checked the manual. Nothing in there. They just fucked up the original release, but the solution for the re-release (different distributor) is still lame. Like I said. Could have just put the file into the SETSOUND dir, and let it copy over with the main installer.

Just a few hours ago I said that I didn't want to come off like an angry asshole and write this, and the lo and behold, someone else wrote this! Please read this in regards to the whole CRT vs modern pixels debate https://t.co/u31seMlcnl
Replying to @dosnostalgic
One of my biggest pet peeves are shot of the CRT screen saying "this is what it's supposed to look like". NO! You eyes aren't cameras. Check out this comparison. Looks different, right? WRONG! I took this photo of my modern LED screen.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
And with CRTs monitors it's even more different. Those things emit a crazy amount of light. And if you're sitting at any distance away from them, you don't see the scanlines. Yes, there's blurring. But it's not the same as something you'd get on a Nintendo connected to a TV.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
My point is: stop saying there's a right way to do something to like two decades worth of technology. It varies on a CASE BY CASE basis. And just because we view something in a different way today from what it was doesn't make it inherently wrong.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
I *bet* you don't watch films at home projected off 35 mm film prints, right? Same deal here. Pretty much every film you watch had extensive color correction and audio remix work done to it to be viewable at home as close to as filmmaker intended, but it's NOT the same as it was

I mean, when it comes to home computer games, there's a high chance of a match, but what about consoles? Those weren't developed on a target platform. It always varies.
Replying to @MobyGamer
The recent article that gets quoted about this conversation points out that they didn't at first. And I mean in the case of that specific studio. Meaning, at first handful of games didn't take TVs into account. So I like I said, it varies on a case by case basis.
Replying to @MobyGamer
Before this goes any further: I understand, and agree with the sentiment that running games as close as you can match the hardware is probably gonna get you as close to the experience as intended. I just think it's silly to issue blanked statements on decades of technology.

Replying to @MobyGamer
We're given no context here as to what "at first" means. At first during *a* game's development, or at first as in as first games shipped? Could be either.
Replying to @MobyGamer
Sure, and I agree. But this whole debate is like the whole 4:3 VGA debate to me. Sure, the end result was viewed at 4:3, but we have examples that both did and didn't take that into the account. I'm not trying to say 4:3 is the wrong ratio.
