PAL consoles output in different "resolution" and refresh rate, and therefore games have to be rewritten the account for that.
Diamond Digger/Gold Miner/Raiders of the Forbidden Mine (Scott Miller/Keypunch Software, 1986) #DOSGameScreenADay
Replying to @Knoblauchkeks
Because console games often use scanline effects. Like switching palettes or shifting images mid screen drawing to achieve something. Those values would obviously be different on PAL vs NTSC because of different timing used on them.
Replying to @Knoblauchkeks
And, believe it or not, if you used similar effects on PC and wanted them to work in 60 or 70 Hz modes, you'd have to rewrite them too! The difference on PC is you'd tend to include the options because of different configurations available, when console configurations are static.

Replying to @JonasKyratzes and @gnomeslair
That's a weird fucking take, tbh. And the answer to the third question is rather obvious, and honestly unrelated to the discussion.
Replying to @JonasKyratzes and @gnomeslair
That is so incredibly reductive. You can just keep pointing fingers at the current state the world, and substitute *art* for literally ANYTHING, and it still works.

How is the working class supposed to get aware of these factors? Surely art *can* be a facilitating tool? Again, the latter part of the tweet has nothing to do with the discussion at hand. Nobody is trying to prove that art can only be political & should be only enjoyed as such.

For Gates it was very much the case of being in the right place at the right time. IBM trust (but then, why wouldn't they? Their Basic was a super successful product), IBM anti-monopoly lawsuit that informed the licensing agreement, & then Compaq with their ROM & all the clones.

Gates has done plenty of things that very much warrant some sort of dislike or even hate, but a chunk of what is being attributed to that (especially these days) is just myths. The guy got super lucky, and then strongarmed companies into favoring MS over competition.

How is it unfairly treated? It's RWS's biggest financial success. Published all over the world. Has multiple expansions. Regarded as the best in the series. Has a movie made based on it.
Why do I own this?
Replying to @bernielomax
I feel like that's been recognized both back then, and today. It's pretty much the only thing that game has going for it, because the rest is quite janky. So much so that RWS are essentially doing Postal 2 again with Postal 4.
Replying to @dosnostalgic

I was actually at Fangoria con in 2007 where they showed the opening sequence of the film to promote its upcoming release. I was tricked. It's the only moderately clever/funny thing in the entire flick.
Replying to @Foone
It really does feel like something that belongs in the Postal 2 adaptation. Has a bit of Troma-like edgy humor to it. The rest of the film is... not that.
Replying to @bernielomax
Postal is pretty bad. In pretty much every aspect. I'm yet to try the remake though.
Replying to @bernielomax
Yeah, because they don't commit to anything. In the end, it's just a giant cop out. Postal 2 definitely benefits from sticking to it.
Replying to @Fractilion
Well, Postal is not an FPS, and is kind of terrible. But Postal 2, despite all of its edgelordness, made quite a few unique decisions for the time, resulting in a pretty interesting open world mission based FPS in 2003.

Second game, while much larger, was developed in less time than the first, by the entirely new team, after the original team quit. A programmer made opening chapter impossible, and quit. Infogrames refused delaying. Plus the team also had to make Jack in the Dark at the same time

I actually consider Neverhood more of a Myst-inspired game than many that have been mentioned. It's very much the same abstract puzzle-centered gameplay, and worldbuilding. Not to mention that half of the game is actually in first person.

How high were Tarantino and Avary while writing Pulp Fiction? Because the script has like a ton of typos
Replying to @expectproblems
I thought it was a deliberate attempt to differentiate it from the first film with that title, as well as overcoming a possible struggle of advertising a film with a swear word in its title in the US. But I also haven't looked at a Tarantino script until just now.
Replying to @expectproblems
Oh my lord, I have to read this one. 😄This almost feels like reading a Shane Black script.
Replying to @expectproblems
Huh. It's weird that I knew that about Shane Black before I ever seen any of his scripts kind of just because that's what his image was when he was hot in Hollywood, but I've never heard it about Tarantino, even though he's been an image of success my whole conscious life.
Replying to @expectproblems
I drunkenly bought the script for Dogma, and it was the most boring thing. EVERYTHING ended up on screen, and what didn't was on the DVD. I could have written that script after watching the film a couple of times.
Replying to @expectproblems
Not to derail, but have you read any Shane Black's scripts? They are hilarious. This is the first page of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
Replying to @expectproblems
I don't know what's available, but what I've seen online is quite interesting. The changes are often so drastic. Like the KKBB script that's out there is missing so many pieces that I love, including Dabney's Playmate in 1964 speech, which is just "nice tits" at that point.
Deleted scenes from The Teriminator are pretty fascinating. They explain why Reese and Sarah end up at *that* specific place in the end, not to mention this entire unused ending that basically bridges this movie and the sequel together.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
As far as sequels go this is kind of funny. Because you think "oh, they've pulled the arm and the chip thing out of their ass to keep the story going" for the sequel, but lo and behold it was always there as the traditional dun dun DUN 80s horror ending.
I'm still not sure if there's a better Sega Genesis soundtrack than Jesper Kid's music for The Adventures of Batman & Robin.
