Watched "Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on The Exorcist" last night. Very few stories I haven't heard before, but the doc doubles as a sort of a look at the Hurricane Billy through his own words. And at 100 min running time, it's pretty short.

Softdisk's shareware trilogy had three episodes, which were all separate games:
The Catacomb Abyss
The Catacomb Armageddon
The Catacomb Apocalypse
When Froggman was releasing boxed retail versions of Softdisk games they changed the titles of the last 2 to Curse and Terror.

Abyss was released as shareware. You could get the other 2 episodes from Softdisk. Later Froggman published the other two episodes as boxed retail products.

Yeah, I guess it is meant to be depth of field. Some stuff is "in focus", and other stuff is blended, but how it works in relation to the camera is a bit weird.

It's dynamic in relation to the camera, which made me think it is intended as a depth of field effect.
 Thu Apr 22 23:05:48 +0000 2021

Replying to @MobyGamer

It is constant level, but it is only sort of doing it to the edges in front of the camera. Although even then it's a bit inconsistent. And it doesn't do it to anything else.
 Thu Apr 22 23:16:15 +0000 2021

Replying to @MobyGamer

Yes, I get it, but I feel like that would have been even harder to implement, especially back then. If it's not meant to be a simple substitute for depth of field then I gotta question why the entire edge of the table doesn't have that effect applied at all times.
 Thu Apr 22 23:17:58 +0000 2021

Replying to @MobyGamer

Maybe. But what's the point of calculating certain edges being worthy of the effect while others aren't? Wouldn't it be easier to just not do that and apply it evenly, unless there was an intent?

You can see that the effect is somewhat simple. It adds two pixels to every pixel of a line, which probably wasn't too difficult to calculate considering what it is doing already to draw a 3D pool table. But just someone thinking up this effect is so impressive for back then.
