Soviet series is generally regarded as one of the most accurate adaptations, and Vasily Livanov was made an Honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire for his portrayal of Holmes. Considering that these are *TV* adaptations in the first place, doubly impressive.

Savage Warriors/Warriors (Atreid Concept/Mindscape, 1995) #DOSGameScreenADay
Replying to @dosnostalgic
Savage Warriors is a rather mediocre French-developed fighting game that has a few interesting features.
- a rather interesting 3D characters with very smooth animation for 1995
- optional weapons
- two perspectives for each arena
- *slightly* interactive arenas
- VGA or SVGA
Replying to @dosnostalgic
And what is this 3D technique? Those aren't polygons, from the look of it. Honestly this almost looks like it's voxels. But then the clipping doesn't support my voxel theory. 🤔Whatever it is, it is certainly unique.
Replying to @Itszutak
I really don't think the characters are polygonal.

Sprites aren't gonna give full volume seen here on legs and feet at 34 sec mark.
Replying to @Bastikeks
How are 2D sprites making the legs and feet at half full rotation seen in this clip at 0:34?
Replying to @SaxxonFox
It would be a bit weird to do that to optimize voxel though, wouldn't it? Since you have to build the volume anyway, why would you bother calculating which limb is in front of another first?
Replying to @dosnostalgic
Video compression isn't doing this game any favors, but the resolution on the characters is pretty low. The game also actually anti-aliases and blends the models with the background
Replying to @howieeday
A lot of the graphics in the final are also just out in the open, but not actual textures. There's one file that looks like something that could be used as character's texture, but it's clearly missing stuff, so that's not it.
Replying to @unzap_ and @hotmultimedia
One sprite per angle would give you that foot at 0:34 mark, not to mention memory/space consideration for a 1995 game that was released on floppy disks.
Replying to @kometbomb and @Bastikeks
There are rendering artifacts all over the place, you just can't see them in Twitter's compressed video. Idk if I'd buy that theory just on the basis of how smooth the foot is, and the fact that it's a floppy disk game from 1995.

Replying to @dosnostalgic
The game itself is a wild blend of Quake and Wolfenstein 3D. 3D meshes, and shootable enemy limbs, yet the maps are all on a flat 2D grid, making the levels boring. The balance is way off with deadly enemies who are super spongy. And there are in-engine mission briefings.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
The game is written in Turbo Pascal, and has that runtime error 200 when your CPU is too fast. It doesn't use floating point, and runs comfortably on a later 486. Has multiplayer as well, even TCP/IP with a patch. And it's Quake-inspired art direction deserved a better game.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
Weirdly, HROT is kind of everything Chasm isn't. Its levels are also on a grid with only right angles and 3D prefabs, but because it's not on a flat plane the environments allow for a lot more variation.

A lot of it is trickery. For example, it's a fixed perspective view. Looking up/down is done the same way it is done in any 2.5D shooter - just shifts the horizon point and pans up or down. Everything gets pretty distorted at extreme angles, so it limits how far you can look.

One of my favorite films. Almost a guilty pleasure, but Carpenter managed to elevate what he's been handed with no control just with his style alone.
My day started out terribly. If you have a cat, give them a boop/kiss for me.

Chevy was the producer. He owned the script, cast Hannah, etc. He made the acting choices. It was his baby. Carpenter was just a hired gun. But he really did manage to balance Chase's clowning with dramatic moments, and great performances by supporting cast. It all fits together.

I wonder if this will be a major topic of discussion among newcomers to the System Shock Remake? 🤔

I personally found the demo to actually be easier than the original, mostly due 2 new controls, but yeah, a proximity mine will just obliterate you no matter how much health you've got. That's a good thing. Enemies were just as dumb as the original's, which I felt was appropriate

SS1 doesn't have RPG elements. It's more about playing carefully, paying attention to surroundings, and solving puzzles.

Software mode shown here, but Q2DOS has these cool features: Internet play, HTTP downloading, SB Pro and GUS support, PCI audio, OGG music, 3Dfx Voodoo
My day didn't go particularly great, so I think I'm gonna pour myself a drink. Here's to you, fellow DOS enthusiasts. 🥂

Just like in the original game, there are modified restoration chambers on each level, and once you flip them back to being healing chambers, you then start from that point on the map after death, while everything else in the level & your inventory remains as it was b4 u died.
