The fucking opening scene scene alone is worth it. It's really creepy for a PG-13 studio horror movie, despite some borderline comical stuff, like Vincent D'Onofrio's Skype sessions. Cool detective story, etc. It just flows well, making it engaging.
Replying to @BPNave
Sure. The Lawnmower Man, Crash (2004), Police Academy, Goldeneye, Mission: Impossible, The Fast and the Furious, Avatar, and there's probably a lot more if you consider how many people won't even look at a pre-1940s film.
Replying to @luisfmercado
That's like saying I didn't like a classic Universal monster movie after watching The Exorcist. What does one have to do with another? Yeah, it's kind of bland, but it came out at the time when studio horror didn't deliver at all for like a decade +.
Replying to @luisfmercado
First of all, it cost LESS THAN A THIRD of what Hereditary cost to make, which is already an achievement. And yes, it's a fine movie that flows well and is engaging. Good story, decent acting, creepy visuals. That's enough for a studio flick. What 2012 studio film was better?
Replying to @Pixelmusement
Tropic Thunder is incredibly tame, and doesn't really cross any lines. I have no idea what you're talking about. It's not "Bruno".
Replying to @Pixelmusement
What line was crossed there? Just some unfunny gross out humor not uncommon to many American comedies.
Replying to @luisfmercado
I Saw the Devil isn't a horror movie, I always confuse which one is Insidious, and which one is The Conjuring, because I didn't like either of them, and can't remember much about either, As Above So Below was okay, but I can't remember much about it either. Gotta see out other 2.

Sure, I'm not saying that Sinister is great because of its budget, only that is a miracle that they pulled off a studio horror film for that kind of money. It Follows is probably my favorite horror flick of a decade, and REC was really good, but it helps that it is foreign.

I believe he said the director's cut exists because it was a home video hit, and the studio wanted to sell it again. They gave him a fairly decent budget, but a very short period of time to create a new cut. Theatrical cut *was* his original cut that he had full control over.

And I always forget that the actually Moonwalker "movie" part of it is about 40 minutes long! The rest of the hour and a half is filled with unrelated music videos done in various styles, with Leave Me Alone being by far the most visually interesting one.
https://youtu.be/crbFmpezO4A
Replying to @dosnostalgic
Anyway, if you haven't seen Moonwalker, it's quite something. Michael Jackson plays... essentially a transformer who protects children from a militaristic drug gang run by Joe Pesci. If you've ever seen the Smooth Criminal music video, it's actually a scene from this movie.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
