Translation makes certain things confusing. That being said, I'm pretty sure you're actually supposed to die by running out of oxygen on one of the early levels, and restart the level without supplies you just picked up using a password. It's a part of the tutorial of sorts.

But yeah, basically you nearly run out of the oxygen when you get your first save password. I was also confused by this (live on the stream too), but the next day I realized it was on purpose. It kind of makes sense if you're a designer, but when you play it, it's not obvious.

On a technical level the game is kind of both awkward and unique. Levels a lot of times are just giant Smacker video files. Sometimes they have transparency. Sometimes they are even layered onto themselves. Scrolling seen in the clip above is pre-baked.

Same with installing the Russian version over the English one, and the other way around. They both use the same entry in registry to store the path, and that's how it ids it.

S-Mart ending is better, and more fun. And that was what I originally saw in theaters, as my country got the "international" cut. But the original ending is a bit more in style with the rest of the series.
