One of the few films of the Prestroika period that's actually worth watching. Just as most films of that time it reveled in depicting the horrors of failing economy and the Soviet regime, which was allowed because of Glasnost. Thanks, Gorby!

Just dynamic music. It wasn't all that common, with Lucasarts's iMuse system being the most well known one, followed by Origin's one. It was a bit easier to do back in the day because music was synthesized by the sound card, instead of being pre-recorded.

Now here's the updated version of the intro from the remake "Dune 2000" (released in 1998, six years after the original). Much higher production value, full motion video, top quality 3D renders for the time. Doesn't hold up so great, imo:

Dune 2000 is an interesting experiment. It just showed how far the genre progressed in just six years. It didn't update enough of the mechanics. https://x.com/EricRichards22/status/1233921491701510144
