When it comes to best I'm honestly at a loss. There are plenty of great DOS ports with 90s ports being better than any other home platform. Mortal Kombat CD, MK2, MK3, Children of the Atom, Rainbow Islands, etc. There are so many.

In a sense that api are proprietary, and they'll eventually be abandoned without a fully functional open alternative. I have a CV1, but I can't run anything that requires a DK2. Everything that uses a Vive needs a SteamVR. OpenVR isn't up to task, despite being around for years.

Original way of hooking up an MT-32 to a PC almost feels like an adventure on it's own. First, you needed an ISA card. That part was PC specific.
