Speaking of expensive peripherals that I can't afford 😄
Replying to @dosnostalgic
Original way of hooking up an MT-32 to a PC almost feels like an adventure on it's own. First, you needed an ISA card. That part was PC specific.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
But that card really didn't do much. Just read the input on port 330, and passed it along. Your computer still didn't output MIDI commands. For that you needed to connect it to an MPU-401, a separate device designed just for that.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
And only then you could connect your precious MT-32 synthesizer to it and, hopefully, and up hearing music that made spending a grand on it worthwhile.
Replying to @dosnostalgic
And remember, those were all separate devices that all had their own price! It really wasn't until Sierra started offering the convenient bundle of everything for $550 when things became a bit more manageable.
Replying to @ternox
Nothing. I'm just less likely to complain about the price of anything because of my long history of PC gaming, and high prices and niche markets being a huge part of it throughout the years.

The world inside the Matrix is specifically designed to be out of time somewhat. With the exception of the Motorolas nothing makes sense really. It didn't in 1999 either. The console doesn't mean MS-DOS, in fact it's *very* non-DOS like, and a lot more like Unix.
Replying to @JamesLSarandis and @pdloupee
In the real world the Navigator's computer has a multi window gui with a touch screen support, and a bash prompt, so that's pretty realistic, even to this day.

Can't you attempt to restore them, and check if anything was there partially to begin with? Office files are just zips these days.
Listen, the best bit of the Herzog baby Yoda story isn't him insisting on not shooting a background plate, it's this

It's on purpose. Hell, the sequence that introduces Neo to the team has a device that DIALS A ROTARY PHONE.
Replying to @pdloupee, @mskarstad and @JamesLSarandis
It is all to play up the fact that the world was artificially created 200 years after the point that it was supposed to take place in. Hell, we can't accurately do that just 30 years after! Just look at Stranger Things, or anything else that takes place in the 80s.
Replying to @pdloupee, @mskarstad and @JamesLSarandis
I don't understand the point. The landlines don't actually exist, they are in a simulation. They are just connections that are constant, because they are stimulating a landline, and therefore are easier to track when you're hacking into a network, and don't have many tools.
Replying to @pdloupee, @mskarstad and @JamesLSarandis
Rotary phone appears in the Matrix, not in the real world, so do all the other weird things, like physical storage that doesn't look like any disc of the time, yet is distinctly 90s.
Replying to @pdloupee, @mskarstad and @JamesLSarandis
Never noticed a rotary phone in the real world. Time to break out the big gun. Where am I looking?

Replying to @pdloupee, @mskarstad and @JamesLSarandis
The scene that you're describing is before Neo is freed, it also features a rotary phone, and it takes place in The Matrix. I could capture it as well, but I have to go to work now.

The latest drivers fuck up VGA altogether, so I wouldn't try it.

I just settled on using VGA2HDMIPRO (old model) and then capturing that. Dumb and expensive, but it works.
