Yes, the VO is pretty cool, especially for Sierra. General MIDI is what it was written for, an excellent midi soundtrack. There's an SVGA option available that gives you higher res portraits & credits, but everything else looks like shit.

He did benefit from it from 1996 and onwards. And with the advent of portable devices that have games on them, Tetris has sold even more than it ever have before, and it keeps going. It is the most sold game of all time. Pajitnov is doing just fine.

Yes, DOS port wasn't developed concurrently, so when it came time to port Eric made a few changes. Some balance fixing, extra checkpoints, and a whole new level. He also took out that weird crab that walked around in the foreground of the first level for some reason.

RR has some extreme balance issues, and gunplay doesn't feel very satisfying, but it has some of the biggest levels in a classic Build game, and the whole game is centered around exploration. Oh, and at least once of the modern ports makes keys look different, which is a big fix.

That's 3 different versions of the player + GUS patches. The player is very temperamental when it comes to MIDI. Won't play if EMM is loaded. Won't play 9 out of 10 files. Won't play if there's more than a handful of MIDIs in the same path.

I have a later version of ZAR that comes with Direct3D and OpenGL executables capable of running in pretty much any resolution, and I never play it because they replace the terrain with a polygonal one.

This is the last version for DOS, and it certainly supports parallel port cables, only you can't do a remote install using those.

You initiate on the server, connect null modem games, it tells you to run a MODE and CTTY commands on the client, the client receives just the Laplink exe and a config, and executes it. Done.

For people asking how the remote install worked: it asked you to initiate a COM port for data transfer, and then change terminal to that port using DOS commands on the client. Microsoft's LapLink knockoff Interlink also had that feature, and here's a shot of that:
