That's a little different. Rendering with quads instead of polys is all Saturn did, it wasn't an exclusive to just Tomb Raider, and there was quite a bit of 3D math involved. If you *really* want to dig deep, nothing is really 3D, as everything ends up protected on a 2D plane.

Yeah, but that's a bit different. In Interphase there's literally two parts of gameplay, one a flat 2D more puzzle based representation, and another 3D action one where you destroy security systems and such in other to further your progress in the flat segments.

It's 100% emulation. That's how DosBox works. It's also pretty portable, and rather platform independent, that's why you can play it in a browser or on a phone. Your current 64 bit computer has *nothing* in common with a 286. Emulation is not a sin of some kind, there's no shame.

I get it. You asked the question, and I'm answering it. Do I consider DosBox to be "not quite emulation"? No, I don't.
"So it feels genuine"? No, I don't either. Playing on a 4K LED screen isn't the same as on an old 17" CRT. CPU and sound emulation often aren't accurate.

Not considering FreeDOS (which is a modern product,) it's possible to run DOS on a modern machine
- depending on DOS (good luck installing let's say DOS 3)
- depending on storage (good luck installing on a SATA SSD)
- depending on hardware (is your video card compatible?)
