This is correct. PC-DOS/MS-DOS launched together with original IBM PC in August of 1981. Windows, however, did need a separate DOS installation all the way until Windows 95 (unless you count Windows NT, which didn't use DOS & wasn't compatible with it).

Check your DosBox config first. Parameters like fullscreen and. fullresolution. Then see what's your output it set to. If that's set to surface, I recommend using openglnb instead.

I doubt it would be better with Hercules, as the game doesn't support it by default. You'd need one of those utilities that just translated CGA output to Hercules, in which case there's not benefit, and the game will appear smaller.

Uspensky was a *major* part of my childhood, and every Russian of my generation. Many of his books were adapted into wonderful cartoons, recognized Soviet classics. I particularly love his collection of horror stories and the novel based on them.

I'd say I have encountered a few games where the controls don't function the same on DosBox, but I wouldn't characterize it as "input lag," because the problem was usually quite the opposite.

My whole original point was that it's just the 16 CGA colors. The fact that you can reassign them in whatever order you choose is largely unimportant, as one's still stuck with those specific colors. That's all I was saying.
