My goodness, 1998 was a great year for FPS games. Half-Life, Thief, Rainbow Six, Delta Force, Tribes, SiN, Unreal.... And Trespasser!
Unreal doesn't really hold up anymore. To be honest I didn't really like it even back then. #ControvercialOpinions
My biggest issue with Unreal even back then was that it's fucking boring. Then Half-Life came out & showed everyone how to be NOT boring.
Replying to @shackle_ton
The game
Great tech & mod music. And idea of a world. But fighting against 2-3 bulletsponges over and over got boring fast.
A few years later Doom 3 would take the throne of a groundbreaking tech demo that got really old after an hour.
And I still remember my first few sessions of Half-Life. At that moment in time I haven't felt like that since Another World.
To this day I maintain that there's quite a lot of similarities in how both Another World & Half-Life build on top of an established genre.
And Trespasser really deserves a lot more recognition. I remember at the time that game getting horrible shit from just about everyone.
Also 1998 gave us NAM. And fuck you, I like it!
Replying to @shackle_ton

I know I've said this before, but I personally find Flashback severely overrated.

It's just for a lot of people it's an undisputed pillar of the cinematic platformer genre, and I can't agree with that.
