I recently heard a weird story about how the first user made DOOM was a level based on Aliens devoid of enemies.
That is absolutely not the case. The first PWAD is very well documented.
Note the date, just over two months after the release of DOOM. The wad itself was created entirely in a hex editor (!!!)
And that's why it's important to know and record your video game history, folks.
Replying to @GeekySwede
Yes. That was the first DOOM total conversion, I believe.
Replying to @GeekySwede
Most certainly not the same person & the origwad is literally two square rooms with a door & a shotgun guy.
The reason I brought up the DOOM wad story is because a person tried to validate "walking simulators" by suggesting 1st DOOM wad was that.
It would be a cool story, if it were true. Personally I don't believe either walking simulators or interactive fiction need validation.
No matter how many times either are compared to chess, backgammon or whatever the hell else, I won't stop thinking of them as games.
I know that some don't recognize these as games, but telling a story that's not true probably isn't going to do it for them either.
