Good morning! Today I'd like to talk about toilets in DOS games! #MorningDOSTalk
The best one is, of course, in Duke Nukem 3D.
A) It's 3D & functional
B) Jenny's phone number
C) Lizardman taking a dump
#MorningDOSTalk
Second best #DOSGaming toilet is in Leisure Suit Larry. Two necessary items are acquired up there, you can go #1 or #2, and even die!
Third best is in Manhunter: New York. It's actually a secret passage into the sewer maze! #MorningDOSTalk
RT @SQHistorian: .@dosnostalgic You beat me to it. :( #MorningDOStalk

Old can be great, but just doing old over & over again is not getting us anywhere. And unfortunately

That's what's going on with the adventure genre. People often aim at just repeating the old.
Replying to @aventuraycia, @SQHistorian and @ben_304
It's not about the budget. New doesn't mean better graphics or shit like that. Indie games in other
Replying to @aventuraycia, @SQHistorian and @ben_304

My father lived over a decade past the life expectancy of an average Russian male, outlived all of his friends and wasn't an asshole.

Replying to @Lunick_Fiore
You can only work in prefabs. It's lame. You can't even make levels as "complex" as in the game itself
Replying to @Lunick_Fiore
In the end Chasm is basically Wolfenstein 3D with real 3D models.

Yes, the file format is rather simple from what I remember
Replying to @richardgoodness and @darthhelmet86
Richard, with Unlimited Adventures, you can make your own Goldbox games!
Forgotten Realms: Unlimited Adventures is essentially a Goldbox RPG creation kit. I wonder if GOG left it intact
RT @daniel_carvalho: @dosnostalgic Have you ever seen a Genius mouse that was shaped / moulded to look like an actual mouse? Very old too. …
I remember FRUA tools being rather limited, BUT there was a thriving module making community that made additional tools.
My last encounter with the FRUA community was in the early 2000s. It seems rather lively then. No idea how it's going now.
Will GOG release of Menzoberranzan increase the number of people in the world who can actually pronounce Menzoberranzan?
Honestly, if you're a cRPG fan, you should be buying all three game packages already. That's a lot of games.
Fuck. I want to play Dungeon Hack now, despite being terrible at it.
RT @rockpapershot: Have You Played... Toonstruck? WELL? http://goo.gl/k2qcm1
Dungeon Hack is essentially Rogue/NetHack that looks like Eye of the Beholder. Random dungeons & Westwood art, what else do you need?
Basically an anti-Lands of Lore :)
If memory serves, you could actually make your own dungeons as well. A nice touch.
I don't know how to feel about this D/Generation remake

I don't understand this tendency of taking an old game, making it look like a budget title from the early 2000s & then claiming it's better
Kind of like Gabriel Knight
I guess there's another way: Redo everything, make it shiny & soulless & destroy everything that was good. Sort of like Flashback.
I guess the only update I will accept is the one that doesn't touch the game & offers options to make it close to the original experience.
So, I guess, something like Grim Fandango
Replying to @tedtropy
The engine isn't even DOOM-like. It's Wolfenstein 3D with 3D models. Still neat though.

Well, I guess the choice of tonight's film is rather obvious
Wes Craven had a large body of work, but Nightmare on Elm Street just stands above everything.
I doubt it's the same now, but back then every kid knew who Freddy Krueger was. Craven went beyond a slasher film & created something iconic
Original Nightmare on Elm Street cost only $1.8 million. A big investment for a small company like New Line, but tiny by Hollywood standards
Other 1984 film budgets for comparison:
Beverly Hills Cop - $15 mil
Gremlins - $11 mil

Gosh, Johnny Depp is terrible in Nightmare on Elm Street :)

Here. Although it's based on Dream Warriors and not the first film
I do love the appearance of The Evil Dead trailer in Nightmare on Elm Street :)
The only Wes Craven movie I haven't seen is that 1975 porn flick he directed under a pseudonym.

I can't play those games for shit, but there's just something so relaxing about them. Although I prefer the later versions.

I remember being really impressed by the graphics in Links LS 2000. The courses looked photo realistic to me then.

That's how it was spelled on a cake I got a couple of days ago. It got me confused. My name is complicated.

Yes. They also pronounced my last name at the ceremony.

I used to really like it, but over the last few years a lot of stuff in it started looking rather silly. Great effects though

Ah. I see. My favorite sequel is Dream Warriors. It's great & Craven was involved. Well, kind of.

I still do. I'm sure it looked great on paper, because it's a fun idea, but the execution is lacking severely.

Aaaaand Fran Bow just made its first real adventure gaming sin. A sliding tile puzzle.
Replying to @ben_304
Nah, I quit the game. Bad enough I had to do like 4 of those in The Pandora Directive a couple of weeks ago.
Replying to @ben_304
I'll go back to it and do it. It's not that bad. I just don't feel like solving one right this very minute though.
We can debate if death or timers or whatever have their place in adventure games, but let's at least agree that sliding tiles have to GO.
Fran Bow is worth it for the story and art. That was apparent even from the early demo.
The adventure design is extremely linear and often awkward. But that was also apparent from the demo.
Every 2d horror game that tried to be gruesome needs to take a lesson from Fran Bow. Top notch visuals that keep surprising you.
However, I keep encountering major glitches that prevent room graphics from loading :(
