Replying to @Resulka
Which one? Kubrick or Lyne?
Replying to @Resulka
Kubrick is over of my favorite directors, but Lyne's version is closer to the source. And hotter, obviously, because it's Lyne.
Replying to @Resulka
Yep yep. He's really good. The whole cast is good in that one. It's a bit underrated in my opinion.
Replying to @AveTory
WHAT???
Replying to @AveTory
Well, actually all those aren't Kubrick's best overall, but all there need to be seen at least once.
Replying to @AveTory
They are still worth it. Especially Full Metal Jacket. Get widescreen versions if you can.
Replying to @AveTory
You've seen Killer's Kiss, Barry Lyndon & The Killing?
Replying to @AveTory
Yes. And he didn't consider Spartacus to be one of his.
Replying to @AveTory
So no Path of Glory either? I love that movie.
Replying to @AveTory
He directed that because Douglas fired the previous director after two weeks & asked him for a favor. He didn't have full control.
Replying to @AveTory
Kirk Douglas was also a producer on it. It was his pet project.
Replying to @AveTory
AND there are also Kubrick's early films that he hated, bought every known print of and destroyed.
Replying to @AveTory
Not Douglas, Kubrick. He didn't like his own films prior to Killer's Kiss. Granted, they were kind of shit.
Replying to @AveTory
Douglas is a colossal asshole from what I heard though.
Replying to @AveTory
Honestly, out of pre-Spartacus ones I only REALLY like Paths of Glory. I'm not that big on Lolita either.
Replying to @AveTory
What you should check out is A Life In Pictures documentary about him. It's good.
Replying to @AveTory
Wow. That's interesting. I like it, but mostly for technical achievements.
Replying to @AveTory
My favorites would be A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Shining, 2001 & 1st half of Full Metal Jacket.
Replying to @AveTory
But honestly most of his other films are also in my top favorites.
Replying to @AveTory
But Dr. Strangelove is still hilarious today, even if it's not topical anymore! Unlike most old comedies with Sellers.
Replying to @AveTory
if you like Sellers I'd also suggest A Life & Death Of Peter Sellers with Geoffrey Rush as him. An amazing TV film.
Replying to @AveTory
Basic Instinct!
Replying to @AveTory
I watch it like every half a year. Fucking love it! Oh, Paul Verhoeven...
Replying to @AveTory
Really? I don't remember forcing you into anything...
Replying to @AveTory
I don't even consider myself a fan because I've never seen his non-English movies. I probably should get on that.
Replying to @AveTory
Have I? I mean, I really like his style, but I tend to pick directors I'm more familiar with.
Replying to @AveTory and @GeorgeQGreg
I think I've seen it with my grandmother once.
Replying to @AveTory and @GeorgeQGreg
Most certainly. People were buying tons of porn with their VHS players during the video boom.
Replying to @AveTory
Was it the title?
Replying to @AveTory
Most of them are. Kind of. They work for teenagers. And as an adult you get to recognize other great elements. Layers!
Replying to @AveTory
Starship Troopers is an awesome teenage corny action flick. & then you grow up & suddenly realize it's about propaganda & control.
Replying to @AveTory
What I can't believe is the fact that a lot of people dismiss Starship Troopers as a stupid teen movie. It's on purpose, people!
It looks like Janus Films & Criterion are gathering rights for a whole bunch of Cronenberg films. I'm excited.
Blade Runner sequel, Tim Burton's Alice sequel & a Grumpy Cat movie. Why do I even bother reading Hollywood news?...
Replying to @AveTory
Yes. Blade Runner project was in works for a while now. Ridley Scott & Hampton Fancher attached. Now it's labeled as "sequel".
Replying to @AveTory
Yeah, I love Blade Runner, but even I think that most of that movie's magic happened by chance. Can't repeat that. But I'll see it.
Replying to @AveTory
The game did very well with the material in a different medium. That approach wouldn't work with the sequel.
Replying to @AveTory
Blade Runner draws inspiration from a lot of things. Honestly, it's pretty far from the novel as far as the story goes.
Damn, it looks like Luc Besson is back into directing. He should stop before he makes more bad movies than he has good ones.
What happened to most of my favorite directors? It feels like most of them sold out and then lost interest in directing. Sad.
Replying to @AveTory
He likes the game a lot. That's all. I doubt any studio will actually back him on that one. And it's a good thing.
Replying to @AveTory
BUT I've seen some of Dead Space and honestly it reminded me of The Thing game a lot.
Luc Besson came back with boring kids CGI cartoons, a crap kids movie with a nude scene in the middle of it & a okay-ish biopic. Meh.
He also wrote a sequel to Leon, but couldn't make it happen because he doesn't own the rights to the original film. THANK GOD!
Tim Burton has been making pure shit for years now. Stylish and good looking, but still shit.
Ridley Scott has always been consistent in technical excellence, but also no good films in years. At least he looks like he's still into it.
Alright, I'll stop bashing the international movie industry now. I swear I'll be talking about DOS games in moment.
Replying to @NRasool
I liked Prometheus, but still not as much as some of his earlier films.
Replying to @NRasool
I'm sure a different cut will eventually surface. There's always multiple ones with Scott.

@AveTory So how was Basic Instinct?
And now I'd like to take a couple of minutes to talk about games made with the DOOM engine.
But not DOOM itself. What can I say about DOOM that haven't been said before? Nothing.
In DOOM we trust.
Replying to @AveTory
I fucking love the movie. In my opinion it's Verhoeven's Hitchcock tribute. Everything is VERY overplayed.
Heretic is loved by many, but in my opinion is overrated. It wasn't different enough from DOOM & I don't like the levels.
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg
What now?
Hexen on the other hand is awesome. Or almost awesome because the levels start getting very confusing very quickly.
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg
That's Dynamix & it didn't use either SCI or DOOM engines. It's own stuff.
However, Hexen brought a lot of new things into a fps & the maps looked great. Lots of environment changes, moving sectors & all that.
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg

It's alright. Heretic 2 is a better sequel.
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg
It uses SCI scripts. And wad format is open. So programmers used it out of convenience. Doesnt mean other engines were involved
RT @St1ka: @richardcobbett @dosnostalgic I'm just gonna say it: Heretic was good. But I really really REALLY hated Hexen. punching enemies …
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg
You could look at it that way. And a lot of engines also use LUA for scripting.
Replying to @GeorgeQGreg
Most of the games released in the last decade, actually.
Replying to @AveTory
And one of my favorite Jerry Goldsmith scores. So sinister.
Things in shooters that I hate: Delayed death animations when you can't tell if the enemy is dead & keep wasting ammo.
Shadow Warrior is a good example of that. And Max Payne 3. That one REALLY pissed me of in that aspect.

Replying to @AveTory
She is, however, in one of the the best Blair Witch spoofs - The Blair Bitch Project starring Linda Blair
Replying to @AveTory
Bullshit version
Replying to @AveTory
Friedkin had complete control over the original production. This resulted in a lot of really great directorial choices...
Replying to @AveTory
... like stopping Lalo Schifrin half way through recording his score, taking the master & throwing it out the window.
Replying to @AveTory
... Or completely rejecting Blatty's original screenplay. Friedkin later just underlined his book & Blatty adapted only that
Replying to @AveTory
And not including some of the scenes Blatty thought were essential. But now he changed his mind, so fuck him.
Replying to @AveTory
Extended cut puts on all those little things for stupid people that I just hate. I loathe all the extra scenes
Replying to @AveTory
Fucking hate it. More the placement of it than anything else.
Replying to @AveTory
2 things I hate the most is the dialogue on the stairs & the tagged on ending with Kiderman & Dyer. Bullshit!
Replying to @AveTory
For the record, it wasn't Linda Blair in most of those shots.

I'm sorry, but all Jokers are very different. I like all of them. My favorite is Mark Hammil in the animated series.
Replying to @AveTory
Although my favorite live portrayal IS Nicholson, I also like what Ledger did. And Romero. None of them are close to my idea of him
Replying to @AveTory
I think the animated series got the character down, in many ways thanks to Hammil's perfect choice of voice.
Replying to @AveTory
Ledger's character was closer to the unpredictable & violent image that Joker should have. Nicholson is like your scary uncle.

So now I can record stuff from Blood, Shadow Warrior, Redneck Rampage & other demanding Build games. Nice!
Quake on high resolutions seems to work well too. (My review from 4 years ago has been very low res.)
SkyNet, however, is a fail. DosBox crashes when the game changes resolutions with Fraps running.
