My technical knowledge of the topic is limited. Love my Adlib though.

I'm afraid that it's music we're talking about, my input is gonna be limited to "remember game X? Love the music!"

RT @WIGZ411: @MattGrandis @dosnostalgic I agree it was a different experience but all the better for it.
Nonsense. It makes me feel great. Smarter. More aggressive. I feel like I could... like I could... like I could TAKE ON THE WORLD!!!
RT @richardcobbett: @dosnostalgic Sure. Different vibe, more overt comedy, but closer to MM than different.
RT @HenrySmola: @dosnostalgic Nobody's that stupid. ... ... Did you say, "Bernard?"
RT @HenrySmola: @dosnostalgic "Bernard, float over here so I can punch you."
Day of the Tentacle is one of my most favorite adventure games, not because it's perfect, but because it's so much FUN to play.
RT @richardcobbett: @dosnostalgic Arguably the best puzzle box type adventure full stop.
Day of the Tentacle or Full Throttle? If you HAD TO pick one.
RT @AmayirotAkago: @dosnostalgic Full Throttle. While I love DOTT's comedy and time travel zaniness, FT's got STYLE. And awesome music.
RT @ben_304: @dosnostalgic Full Throttle. You can't argue with the atmosphere of that setting!
RT @gnomeslair: @dosnostalgic Day of the Tentacle!
Well, it looks like DOTT is winning. I must admit, I'd also pick DOTT over FT, even though I think nothing compares to FT's style and flow
Here's my every DOTT experience: Sit down, play for a couple of hours, done, get up, smile like an idiot for the rest of the day. Effortless
The older I get the more annoying bike fighting in FT becomes. Also seeing a new player try it recently reminded me of all the pixelhunting.
These are nitpicks, but at the end of the day these are my ONLY problems with Full Throttle. I have absolutely NO issues with DOTT. So yeah.
In the unrelated and very late news: The interface in Monkey Island: Special Edition is shit!

I love Dizzy! Too bad the DOS versions are inferior to ones on the other platforms. #MorningDOSTalk
Fantastic Dizzy is pretty awesome on PC, BUT I still remember playing it on a 286 and waiting for forever while the locations loaded.
I played all of the Dizzy games on a Spectrum, with the exception of 7. Great stuff. I don't know how anyone can hate on Dizzy.
I mean I can understand why a game like that wouldn't be particularly appealing now, but back then Dizzy was awesome. Never mind how unfair.
In Russia it seemed like we had a million and a half Dizzy-clones for the Spectrum. And a hundred Dizzy fan games as well.

Replying to @ShotupSpeako
oh no. It's gotten to you as well...
Growing up I was never into RPG games. Most were a bit too complex, required reading thick manuals and such. Wasn't my cup of tea.
But somehow still managed to play all early Ultima games. They were easy to pick up, I guess. Hard as tits though.
Ultima 4 was the first to really stand out with its more defined world. I always liked open environments, so I was in right away.
Ultima 5 & 6 were even cooler, BUT THEN Ultima 7 arrived. And that was a MASSIVE leap in everything. The level of interactivity was shocking
I always liked how Ultima broke the 4th wall and always showed that YOU were the Avatar, but U7 even took that to a new level in its intro.
My first few sessions in Ultima 7 consisted of seeing how many NPCs I can kill. Good times. #MorningDOSTalk
I always felt that the level of interactivity of Ultima 7 wasn't outdone untill recently. But then again, I don't really play RPGs.
The only really annoying part of Ultima 7 for me is the stupid drag and drop inventory management. I know it fresh and new, but HOLY FUCK!
After 7 it was all downhill for the series. Even though I played both 8 & 9 and enjoyed certain aspects, both are a huge step down from 7.

I suck at SHMUPS. Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, whatever. I'm really bad at them. Doesn't help that they are usually extremely hard.

Trainspotting 2? Why, Danny, why?
When I was young Darkman was one of my least favorite Sam Raimi films. The older I get the more fun it is to watch it. Great flick.
Somehow Raimi managed to work within the limitations of a studio action blockbuster & created his usual zany extravaganza.
He would actually pull it off again years later with Spiderman 2. Also a great comic book action flick that's unmistakably a Raimi picture.
Why am I saying all this? Mostly because I really don't want to see Raimi's Oz, although as a fan I still feel like a have to.
Tim Burton's Alice was such a kick in the nuts. What could have gone wrong? EVERYTHING! This just looks like another Disney CGI cash grab.
At least Raimi had enough decency to come out and say that he won't be directing the inevitable Oz sequel.

Duke, Blood & Redneck Rampage also have very good expansions by Sunstorm Interactive. All very much in style of original games.

Probably Shadow Warrior, but Blood is a very close second.

Duke Caribbean, Cryptic Passage for Blood, Redneck: Suckin' Grits
And, of course, Extreme Paintbrawl. Considered by many to be the worst FPS of all time. I'd say the jury is still out on that one.
1998 brought us NAM. A commercial version of an awesome Platoon total conversion for Duke3D. Say what you will, but I love it.
NAM might have been really dated, but it had some really cool stuff. Very large maps. AND awesome deathmatch that no one played.
And 1999(!) brought us the last commercial Build release - World War II GI from the creators of NAM/Platoon.
Instead of ripping off Platoon, WW2GI is ripping off Saving Private Ryan. The art was a bit "better" than NAM. Although idk. I don't like it
Here's a demo of Fate, an unfinished Build game. Never actually tried that one. http://www.jonof.id.au/build.games/fate #MorningDOSTalk

Why do I still think of Half-Life 2 & Max Payne 2 as modern games? I should stop. It's like bringing up Wolfenstein 3D in 2002.
Replying to @AveTory
And limited weapon carrying. And cover based shooting. I fucking hate action games of today.
Replying to @TorbenFrost
Oh no. I don't bring up GTA3 as modern. Looks waaay too dated with its disconnected polygons.
Modern games that I actually played, but really shouldn't have: Max Payne 3, Duke Nukem Forever. Such a fucking shame.
I won't hold it against you. RT @TorbenFrost: "I'm unfollowing your ass."

We now bring you back to our regularly scheduled programming.
Good morning everyone! I have another weird topic for today's #MorningDOSTalk: How about glitches/bugs in DOS games?
See kids, back in the day when Internet didn't exist patching a game wasn't really an option, so games were mostly shipped in a stable state
Replying to @ben_304
Yes, if it's big enough
But sometimes certain things would still slip through the cracks. You could maybe eventually get a patch from bbs/mail in for update floppy
RT @ben_304: @dosnostalgic I used to blow up opponent's trucks in Transport Tycoon by building a short rail across their roads, then add ...
Remember how difficult X-COM was? Well it would have been a lot harder if the game didn't reset to "beginner" after the first mission.

Replying to @djbriandamage
Not feeling that one in all honesty.
Replying to @djbriandamage
Possibly. Hotline Miami is the only game in recent years I truly fell on love with.
Replying to @djbriandamage
I can't really count those retro-styled games as modern though. The gameplay is usually based on old principles.
Playing through Duke 3D Megaton I'm reminded how often monsters get stuck between two surfaces & die. #MorningDOSTalk #Squish
Car & Driver. Besides being a really strange driving "game" (Let's race around a parking lot!) is also 1 of the most glitchy games I played
Not really a bug, but in DOOM the way BFG works is after it hits, rays are traced from THE PLAYER to determine the second wave of damage...
... This can be both exploited & be extremely annoying. Raise your hand if you know what I'm talking about. #MorningDOSTalk

How did I manage to cross over 9,000 tweets away? #confused
Wait, Duke Nukem Forever had a DLC??? #wtf #didanyonecare

Also, can we have the same thing done with DOOM? #prettypleasewithsugarontop
However, the multiple count achievements (secrets and shrinker) in Duke 3D Megaton are broken. Lots of times secrets & killings don't count.
Replying to @Meptrep
I'm well aware. I'd like a Steamworks multiplayer for convenience.
Replying to @Meptrep
I am. Ine of the few games I can still kick people's ass in. I'm useless in more modern stuff.
I mean it, I'll pay for all the classic shooters AGAIN if they'll come with multiplayer in Steam, no matter how many copies I already own.
The reason is selfish: Only in those games I still have a chance of kicking someone's ass. So please, dear developers, grant me this chance.

If Dizzy was to come back today, it would have to be something new. Something like Psychonauts. To give it elements it never had before.
Effortless platforming might be a nice idea, but as The Cave proved, in practice it just turns into busy work.
Or maybe modern Dizzy can be something like a full 3D Ecstatica. Just not that grim, obviously.
