#MorningDOSTalk I would love to get my friend with Sierra games that I grew up with, but they are hardly suitable for a modern gamer.
I'm actually very grateful that I grew up & played through most Sierra adventures when it was acceptable for games to be that unforgiving.

Replying to @AveTory
The same can be said of every story-driven adventure game, but it's not really true, is it?
Replying to @NickMcAnulty
Let's just hope that if the new wave of kickstarted adventure games is a success. Maybe companies will take notice then.
The fact that Coktel Vision games like Fascination and Geisha were designed by a woman is not as strange as that Phantasmagoria was as well.
Phantasmagoria is weirdly sexist. To the point that it bothers me. It wasn't intentional, I'm sure, but still.
Replying to @magisterrex

I will never understand why people like Blackstone so much.
Replying to @AveTory
It's good and I like it a bunch, but a lot of people put it into best adventures ever lists & I don't think it belongs.
Can't go a day without bashing some universally loved classic game, can I?
Replying to @PrinceOfBrains
It's not. However, I don't particularly care for Zelda games in general. Ocarina included. Just not my cup of tea.
Replying to @PrinceOfBrains
Yeah, I sort of started getting into Majora's Mask a bit. I still don't understand all the shit that game's getting.
Ok, just saw people complaining (on some boards) that Blood is hard. Man up! Blood is tough, but far from impossible. #ILiveAgain
In fact I think Redneck Rampage is a much more difficult Build game. Enemies are very powerful.
Never really tried 3dfx emulation in DosBox until GOG release of Carmageddon. Works quite nicely actually. And fast too.
Replying to @PrinceOfBrains
As someone who plays through Blood once a year I can almost certainly state that it's not the case. It's a bit tricky.
Replying to @PrinceOfBrains
The thing with Blood is you absolutely HAVE TO learn to use all weapons, and not just rely on a couple.
Replying to @PrinceOfBrains
Several stone gargoyles in one area in later episodes are quite a hassle. BUT dropping a Life Leach makes it a breeze.
Replying to @phanboy_iv
I use a special build anyway, so I'm not sure. Not a hassle, at least with GOG release they've included all the files and such.
Replying to @DaveJustDave
Yes, you'll need a glide wrapper. http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=16462 It looks like nGlide is the one included with the GOG release.

I've payed for Carmageddon multiple times in my life, so I don't think $9 for a Max Pack is a high price at all.
Watching that Drugs Live tv show that stirred up Twitter last night. Damn. You'd never see something like that on tv in the US.
I think it's Shawshank Redemption time. #GreatMovies #BestMovies #FavoriteMovies

And I'm watching Balabanov's Blind Man's Bluff (Zhmurki). Thanks for setting off Balabanov marathon, you son of a bitch.
Checking out the cd version of Cannon Fodder for the 1st time. It's just the full version of the intro (same as 3do) & some minor stuff.
The music is still adlib/roland only. I would prefer proper music & the fmv intro with the theme song that sega cd had.
Replying to @AveTory
I'm partial to it because I know every fucking street in that movie. And I don't think it's THAT bad. Balabanov made worse.
Replying to @AveTory
I pretty sure I've seen every Balabanov movie except for 1 or 2, so I known it's not his worst.
Replying to @AveTory
It's true. But I like that openly admits that it was a commercial project. He calls it his "genre" film, I guess he means a comedy.
Replying to @AveTory
Oh, it's absolutely Richie inspired, down to ripping off Snatch in parts. :) That's why I think it's funny that he openly admits it
Replying to @AveTory
Well, Brat was made honestly. For no money. A real film depicting the period. After that he got famous & that ruined everything.
Replying to @AveTory
I totally understand. Again, I think it's part of Balabanov's style to be overly glum & exploitative. But when it works, it works
@AveTory Holy shit! I completely forgot that in the end they are government people in 2005! And you were saying. :)
Replying to @AveTory
But it's fucking hilarious! "Where's the country going, if people like you drive with sirens?" & "Life is hard nowadays". XD
@AveTory I was exposed to early Balabanov's films a lot because he was friends with Butusov & my mom's friends were into Russian rock.
@AveTory His shorts were pretty cool. I remember "Yegor & Nastya" pretty well or his Kafka movie. I like his visual choices a lot.
@AveTory It's a shame that when I became old enough to really appreciate his work, his output really started going downhill.
Replying to @AveTory
Oh absolutely. Long takes. Let's the actors play. And he imposes same old restrictions in his modern films. Kind of ironic.
Replying to @AveTory
is it the one that he just made? Because I just saw the one from last year and it was BAD.
Replying to @AveTory
I think it just played at festivals or something. Last year's Kochegar was awful though. Freight 200 had more redeeming value.
@AveTory And that's another thing. I sort of guess Freight 200 was supposed to be the 1st post-Perestroika exploitation, but it fails so bad
@AveTory The "road movie" idea sounds interesting. Haven't read about it yet. But then again, I don't like his all out artsy flicks either.
@AveTory What do you think of "The Castle" or "Of Freaks and Men"? I don't think we ever talked about it?
This week @richardcobbett rips into one of my favorite Russian games - GAG: The Impotent Mystery http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/09/29/saturday-crapshoot-gag/
Replying to @richardcobbett
There's no actual graphical differences between the English version & the Russian version. No extra nudity in the original.
@richardcobbett What did exist is an "add-on" called "Gary's Vacation" where you just walk around the apartment looking at nudie clips. #GAG
@richardcobbett I love GAG. I think it's so incredibly zany it becomes hilarious. Can't believe you didn't mention the gator flight minigame

Good morning people! Any Elite fans in the house? Who wants to talk about the pc releases & sequels? #MorningDOSTalk
Which one have you played first and which one is you favorite? Elite? Elite Plus? Frontier? First Encounters? #MorningDOSTalk
Today #DosGameScreenADay features me attempting to dock in space in Elite Plus. https://x.com/dosnostalgic/status/252020725710471168/photo/1
I've actually played a bunch of Elite on my ZX Spectrum knock off when I was a kid. I loved it, but I was terrible at it.
The original DOS release just looked ugly to me. Nothing against CGA, but it just didn't fit. Elite Plus was awesome though.
I got back into Elite when Russia finally got some Internet going. Only then I found out that there were sequels, so I played both.
I usually really like early open world 3D games, but there wasn't much to do in Frontier most of the time. A game for space enthusiasts.
Don't remember much of First Encounters, but it felt just like an upgraded Frontier, so I never really invested much time in it.
So tell me your Elite stories! And if you ever actually got to the Elite rank honestly, know that you're my personal hero. #MorningDOSTalk
Conversion experts, here's a question: Is the MS-DOS version of Golden Axe identical to the Genesis one?

AND if you can also tell me what gaming franchise that game was incorporated into, you need to go and seek professional help immediately.
