I gotta give it to Stallone. Both Rambo 4 & Rocky 6 are very enjoyable sequels. Rocky is surprisingly sad, Rambo is surprisingly violent.
Replying to @AveTory
Is he actually directing this time? The Irony of Fate 2 was alright for what it was. I expected worse. The trailer is self-ironic.
Replying to @AgustinCordes
Rambo 4 is awesome. When it ran in theaters it got a standing ovation. Glorious violence in the last act.

I think Day Watch is really enjoyable. I do. I've seen it a bunch of times & I think it really works. Well, for me at least.
Replying to @AveTory
Day Watch is a lot more restrained & just generally better paced. Plus it has one of the best credits sequences I've ever seen.
Replying to @AveTory
You gotta remember that about 1/2 the Night Watch was tv show footage, while with Day Watch it's much less. Much better result.
Replying to @AveTory
But then I also like Bekmambetov's editing. I think it works very well in Day. Wanted, not so much. Haven't seen Abe vs Vamps yet.
Replying to @AveTory
Listen, I fucking enjoy Pitof's Vicocq immensely, so there. That movie is made of close-ups. Bekmambetov is nothing in comparison.
@AveTory However, I think the story & characters really work in Day Watch. The acting is a bit wonky, but overall I really enjoy it.
@AveTory and I think Bekmambetov's style really makes the script work, and Day Watch as a whole works for me.
@AveTory I wasn't that impressed with Night Watch, although taking all production things in consideration, the result is quite good.
@AveTory But Day Watch really got me. It did. I'm being honest. It really works for me. I don't know what else to say.

Jeunet made advertising & music videos before his film making with Caro. Just like Fincher. And a lot of others.
Replying to @AveTory
Jeunet made a shitton of commercial before his short films. Look them up. They are good. I also like Fincher. What you gonna do...
Replying to @AveTory
Damn, Fincher is responsible for some of the best looking music videos of the 80s. Great commercials as well.
Replying to @AveTory
Agreed. I think if a "shooter" comes to learn how to handle a narrative, it's great. Fincher did it. So did Jeunet. Bekmambetov?
Heard a 90s dance song I completely forgot about (Life by Haddaway) on the radio today. My day is better already.

Batman & Robin is not entirely Schumacher's fault. Although, of course, he's still responsible.

Replying to @AveTory
Why wouldn't I? I love it. 12 too. One of the rare cases where remaking a movie really worked.

I'd say I like 12 the most. Especially the visuals. The original isn't very good, mostly just exploiting the so-called "stars".
Replying to @AveTory
Soderbergh has a great body of work that splits evenly into commercial & independent. He's probably the only 1 who has done that.

@IgorHardy It's just for some reason over the years I've watched more movies from the last 40 years or so. Wasn't a deliberate choice.

RT @Gamescollection: @dosnostalgic we remember the txt files on old floppy disks, asking politely not to make unauthorised copies.obvious ...
What *I* remember of copy protection from back in the day is the fact that almost always there was none left. So a lot of group intros.
The ones that were left were usually a pain and were tough to put in a text file. Like the codes in SQ4 and the like.
Replying to @djbriandamage
However, in an inspired moment of "fuck you", if you got it wrong 3 times it would still play the intro & then quit! Genius!

However, there's enough shitty exorcism movies still being made.
@AveTory The Ninth gate is Polanski, good sir.
Replying to @AveTory
Blatty can write, that's for sure. I feel that Exorcist 3 is a bit heavy handed on direction though. But I really like it overall.
Replying to @AveTory
I love Brad Dourif in Exorcist 3. He (and his monologues) make that flick. Well, and George C. Scott's "It's NOT in the FILE!!" too
@AveTory Friedkin was initially opposed to doing a new cut of the original, but now prefers the new cut. Blatty is to blame.
Replying to @AgustinCordes and @AveTory
The Changeling is a good flick. Very creepy. George C. Scott is great, as always.

The Exorcist is a perfect movie in my opinion & any attempts to improve it will fail. That's the case with the extended cut.
Replying to @AveTory

Replying to @AveTory
Friedkin is fucking loosing it. His new "restoration" of The French Connection is horrible. His commentary track on the extended...
Replying to @AveTory
... Exorcist is a legend as one of the worst. And the fact that he agreed to something that he used to argue against is just silly.
Replying to @AveTory
Nothing against the spiderwalk on its own, but it prepares you more for what's to come. & that's the cross-wadrobe sequence.
Replying to @AveTory
I don't really have any problems with any of the additional material, I just think it doesn't belong in the film.
Replying to @AveTory

As soon as you reach the middle of the Y two pillars at the ends of it open up releasing 2 Barons of Hell. I nearly fell out of the chair.
Another big Doom memory of mine is the 1 where I convinced a whole class & a teacher to play it (brought the shareware with me) & every...

It's Malik, so it's a bit too pretentious for some. I liked it a lot. Think an American Midwest version of Tarkovsky's Mirror
Replying to @AveTory
Maybe, but Alice 1 & 2 are very solid games.
Replying to @AveTory
I'd recommend The Thing Red Line, but I don't know if you'd like it to be honest.
Replying to @AveTory
It gets better, but yeah, it hasn't aged that well. But I still think it's a solid game. Loved the second one as well.
Replying to @AveTory
"The Thin Red Line" obviously I just typed "g" after "The Thin" on reflex. The power of Carpenter!
Replying to @AveTory
It's pretty awesome. But it's hardly a war movie. Very pretentious. 70% narrated internal monologue. Great scene with Nick Nolte.
Replying to @AveTory
Well, it's not quite the same situation. Anox was in development much longer & improved on Q2 engine a lot.
Replying to @AveTory
Alice had a very quick development period & used only the stuff available out of the box. Better compared with Heavy Metal: Fakk 2

Watching @JamesGunn's Super. It looks like it became a movie I watch once a year. What a fantastic genre... non-genre? multi-genre? film.
I guess what I'm getting at is that Super is non-mainstream. It's very good, but it's definitely not for everyone.

I've got about 10 DOS Nostalgia videos to edit. And I get to find out if I'm be able to read my own code after 6 weeks of not looking at it
However, a big break in the project will probably help me objectively judge if I'm going in the right direction or not.
Like is writing an engine with event based scripts too much for 1 specific project? I'm pretty sure I won't be using it 4 anything else...
I'm the only one doing the scripting too, it's not like I have a team. And the engine is too limited to apply to any other game.
I guess it's all for my personal fulfillment or something. I don't know...
I'm sorry for the absence of my nostalgic morning discussions. My online presence will increase after the videocard & phone purchase.

@AveTory Older russian games... Well, all Nikita, that Sobor game by the two guys who made Bermuda Synrome. A bunch of others.
@AveTory Actually now that I think about it, MadSpace deserves its own review. It was a fun game. Very underrated.

Rainy day in New York... Anyone wanna talk about cheating in games? I basically don't do it.
Especially since I'm an adventure gamer, I think using a walkthrough takes a lot of fun out of it.
Admittedly though, I'll look up a solution if I'm seriously stuck. But that's a semi-recent thing. Internet spoiled me.
However, I've got a friend who buys these guides with every new game he gets. Makes no sense. The game's $50, u don't want 2 blow through it
Cheating in action games removed tension, and that's half the game. Unless you just want to blow off steam for half hour of course.

Their Blood 2 is broken. Just like it always was. But that's a horrible game. I'm not a fan of hi-res patches.
Replying to @AveTory
Since the patch is unofficial, there's no need for GOG to include it. It's freely available anyway.
The Intouchables is a great flick. Simple & fun. It's mostly a comedy. A few dramatic notes hit here & there, but nothing too sad.
What really works is acting. It's fantastic. Haven't seen a "feel good" movie that was so well done in a long time.

Replying to @AveTory
Of course They Live is better, but what does that have to do with anything?
Replying to @AveTory
Not that many people like Big Trouble, and They Live is much more genre defined, so it's easier to digest.
Replying to @AveTory
Laura once told me that she saw They Live as a kid & it scared the shit out of her. I was like "What? But it's hilarious!"
Replying to @AveTory
Does Big Trouble really end up on action lists? Action certainly isn't the best part of this flick.
Replying to @AveTory
Very few movies takes themselves as silly as Big Trouble does. Especially when it come to dialogue. Or the useless protagonist.
Replying to @AveTory
At the same time it looks top notch with Carpenter's western-like staging & Cundey's cinematography. Continuous music always a +
Replying to @AveTory
It was an optioned Western script that was rewritten 2 take place in modern times. Carpenter took it in the only direction he could
Replying to @AveTory
It's not funny intentionally. Bad script. And I think it was a clever decision to make it an overly silly action parody of sorts.
Replying to @AveTory
Im sure the person doing the rewrite intended it 2 be so. But the comedy in the film is almost entirely in acting/directing choices
Replying to @AveTory
I would actually recommend both. And both combined will still take less time than playing through Omikron. :)
Replying to @AveTory
What? I really don't think so. Even if some are dramas or action they still have the Carpenter look & feel. Always.

Personally, I don't really remember too many. The original Leisure Suit Larry had one. Tetris. A bunch of other Russian games...
I'm not sure how useful the boss key ever was because it assumed that your boss is either far enough away or an idiot.
